Pictograms

What are Pictograms?

Pictograms are charts that are very similar to bar charts. However instead of using bars, pictograms use pictures to represent the numbers involved.

A pictogram always contains a key which tells you what each of the pictures represent. Each picture can represent more than one item. Because of this often the picture is cut in half or into quarters to represent the amount involved.

In this pictogram each circle represents 10 cans of beans. Shop B has 5 and a half circles so they sold 55 cans of beans.
